Big Sean Reveals "I Decided" Is A Concept Album
For his fourth studio LP I Decided, Big Sean revealed that he's making a departure from what he's done in the past. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, the Detroit rapper said he's committed to a well-defined concept album about the idea of rebirth.
"I’m happy we are delivering something unexpected. I’m excited to push the culture and push my artistry to the limit,” the 27-year-old said.
I Decided will include numerous features such as Chance the Rapper and Jeremih ( both on the recently released “Living Single”). Instagram photos suggest Pharrell, Bruno Mars and songwriting legend Diane Warren will also be on board.
Inspired by old school soul music, Big Sean wants to tell the tale of a man who gets a second chance at life.
“I [told my friend], ‘Sometimes I feel like I was an old man and didn’t succeed in life and asked for a second chance, and this is my second chance.’ He was like, ‘Make that the album.’ People who can be inspired by it, that’s who I’m doing it for. Everybody else can fuck off or whatever,” Sean Don said.
The rapper also said a visit to a Motown exhibit with Berry Gordy with his mother was instrumental in his decision to make a concept album.
“[Gordy] was talking about Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder and the Temptations and how one of the things they did was inspire people. They inspired people to have a good time, to do better — to be a better version of themselves. That really stuck with me. That’s what I want to do, too.”
I Decided drops on February 2 and can is available for pre-order on iTunes
