Rihanna to Receive Humanitarian of the Year Award From Harvard University
Rihanna celebrated her 29th birthday earlier this week and now she’s received a major gift. The pop superstar is being recognised for her philanthropy work, set to receive the Humanitarian of the Year Award from Harvard University.
RiRi will be given the Peter J. Gomes Humanitarian Award for her charitable work with the Clara and Lionel Foundation Scholarship Program. Founded in 2012, the non-profit organisation is named after her grandmother and grandfather, aimed at promoting education and assisting students in Caribbean and South American countries to attend college in the United States.
The singer has also lent her services and shown support towards the Global Partnership for Education and the Global Citizen Project. “Rihanna has charitably built a state-of- the-art center for oncology and nuclear medicine to diagnose and treat breast cancer at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Bridgetown, Barbados,” said S. Allen Counter, the Harvard Foundation’s director.
